Site privacy notice
How this website handles information.
A privacy practice should hold itself to the standard it sells. This is a plain account of what this site collects, what is logged automatically, and who else processes it.
What this site collects
This is a static website. It sets no advertising cookies and runs no third-party analytics or tracking scripts, so nothing here follows you between sites or builds a profile of you.
Two things are collected. The first is whatever you choose to send through the contact form or by email. The second is automatic: this site is hosted by Hostinger, and like every web host, Hostinger records ordinary server logs each time a page is requested, typically the requesting IP address, the browser's user agent, the page requested, and the referring page. Those logs exist to operate and secure the site. Tectonix does not use them to identify, profile, or market to visitors, and does not combine them with anything you send.
The contact form
Tectonix collects whatever you submit through the form: your name, institution, role, work email, and whatever you write in the message. That information is stored by Tectonix and used to respond to your inquiry and, if it goes further, to scope potential work. It is not sold, rented, or used for unrelated marketing.
Do not use this form, or ordinary email, to send personal information about residents or details of a live privacy incident. It is not a secure intake channel. If you need a secure channel, email privacy@tectonix.ca with only a request to arrange one, and no incident details.
Service providers
Tectonix uses two service providers: Hostinger, which hosts this website and carries contact form submissions to the Tectonix mailbox, and Zoho Corporation, which provides email. Both act on Tectonix instructions and not for their own purposes. Hosting also involves brief technical records kept to operate and protect the site.
Apart from these providers, Tectonix does not disclose inquiry information to third parties. It may disclose information where required or permitted by law.
How long information is kept
Inquiry correspondence is retained by Tectonix as a business record, so the history of a conversation is available if you get back in touch later, and so Tectonix can meet its own record-keeping and professional obligations. It is not used for anything beyond that: answering you, scoping work, and keeping the record. You can ask for your correspondence to be deleted at any time, and Tectonix will do so except where it must keep a limited record to meet a legal or record-keeping obligation or to resolve a dispute.
Server logs are held by Hostinger and handled under that provider's privacy policy. Tectonix does not extract, copy, or separately retain them.
Safeguards
Access to inquiry correspondence is restricted to authorized personnel, and Tectonix relies on the security controls provided by its hosting and email services. No ordinary email channel is appropriate for resident personal information or live incident details, which is why this site asks you not to send them.
Your choices
You can ask whether Tectonix holds personal information about you, how it has been used or disclosed, and ask for access to it or correction of an error. You can also withdraw consent or ask for deletion. Tectonix will honour those requests where it can, and will say so plainly where it must keep a limited record to meet a legal or record-keeping obligation or to resolve a dispute.
Privacy questions and complaints
Tectonix handles personal information in the course of commercial activity, which means the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) applies to it. The Principal Consultant is the individual accountable for Tectonix's privacy practices, and can be reached at privacy@tectonix.ca.
Any privacy concern raised with Tectonix will be investigated and answered. If it is not resolved to your satisfaction, you can submit a complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.
Changes to this notice
If Tectonix changes how this website collects, uses, or discloses personal information, this notice and the date below will be updated.
